🌱 About Our Micro-Farm

A Small Farm, Grown with Intention

myBackyardHomestead is a small, intentional homestead and micro-farm in the Pikes Peak region of Colorado. What started as a personal journey toward growing food and building resilience has grown into a local virtual farmstand designed to serve our community with seasonal plants, food, and connection.

This is not large-scale agriculture. It’s a right-sized farm designed to feed people, build soil, and keep food systems local. We don’t aim to be a large operation or offer everything year-round. Availability is seasonal, quantities are limited, and many items are offered by presale only.

How the Homestead and Farmstand Work Together

The homestead is where we grow, learn, and experiment.

The micro-farm is how we apply that knowledge intentionally and at a small scale.

The virtual farmstand is how we share seasonal offerings with the local community.

What “Micro-Farm” Means to Us

Being a micro-farm means:

  • Growing on a small footprint
  • Working with the land, not against it
  • Choosing varieties that thrive in short growing seasons
  • Offering limited, seasonal availability
  • Prioritizing quality, care, and timing over volume

Everything we offer is shaped by what’s realistic, resilient, and sustainable in our region.

What We Grow & Offer

What we grow and offer changes with the seasons and may include strawberries, berries, fruit trees, flowers, vegetables, and herbs. Some items are grown here, while others are sourced from trusted specialty nurseries and selected carefully for our climate.

Our offerings change with the season and may include:

  • Strawberry plants and fresh strawberries
  • Currants, gooseberries, jostaberries, and other berries
  • Fruit trees and perennial plants (limited availability)
  • Vegetable starts and seasonal vegetables
  • Cut flowers and flower starts
  • Herbs for home gardens

Some items are grown here, while others are sourced from trusted specialty nurseries and selected intentionally for local conditions.

Availability is always seasonal and quantities are limited.

Why We Use a Virtual Farmstand

Our virtual farmstand allows us to:

  • Offer presales so we grow and source responsibly
  • Reduce waste and overproduction
  • Give customers clear pickup options
  • Keep operations simple and local

Customers place orders online, then choose:

  • farm pickup
  • local delivery (fees apply)
  • or Friday pickup at the Woodland Park Farmers Market

This approach keeps everything predictable for both growers and customers.

Seasonal & Presale-Based by Design

We don’t aim to be stocked year-round.

Instead:

  • Items are listed when they’re actually available

  • Many plants are offered by presale only

  • Once something sells out, it may not return until the next season

This helps protect plant health, manage workload, and keep expectations clear.

Rooted in the Pikes Peak Region

Everything we do is shaped by:

  • elevation

  • weather extremes

  • short growing seasons

  • and local community needs

We believe strong food systems start close to home, with growers and neighbors working together.

Looking Ahead

As the farm grows, so will the offerings — but always within the limits of what the land, the season, and the community can support.

Our goal isn’t to grow bigger.
It’s to grow better.
